Why Choosing A Word For The Year Is More Successful Than A Resolution

Do you need some tips to choose a word for the year?

January is always a season of intense deliberation for me…

  • Because it’s the start of a new year…
  • Because my birthday falls in January…

The weeks between Christmas and my birthday, I stop and ruminate over the last year… In 2014, I have followed a number of blogs with amazing inspiration

  • I have been inspired…
  • I have been motivated…

Through my daily walk as a Christian,  have realised the power that Christ deposits in each of us to keep persevering…

  • To face anything…
  • To overcome anything…
  • To embrace anything…

So as I read ‘My Reckless Prayer for 2015’ by Wendy van Eyck

I felt strongly that I should choose one word that would sum up who I wanted to be or how I wanted to live my life in 2015…

The thing is, I couldn’t just choose one word, because a few came to mind and I pondered over them. A word should be our focus, guidance and be meaningful.

1| Relentless

Adjective: unceasingly intense. Synonyms: persistent, constant, never-ending, unabating, incessant, endless, unrelenting, sustained.

2| Pursue

Verb: follow or chase (someone or something).

3| Unyielding

Adjective: (of a person or their behaviour) unlikely to be swayed; resolute. Synonyms: resolute, inflexible, uncompromising, unbending, unshakeable, unwavering.

My prayer is that I love Christ the same way He loves me, relentlessly; unyielding and in continuous pursuit in this coming year…

So that I can passionately say –

Place me like a seal over your heart, like a seal on your arm; for love is as strong as death, its jealousy unyielding as the grave. It burns like blazing fire, like a mighty flame. Many waters cannot quench love; rivers cannot sweep it away.

(Song of Solomon 8:6-7a).

  • To be relentless; to live unyielding…
  • To know the God Moses called friend…
  • To encounter the God Jacob wrestled with…
  • To wholeheartedly love the God Ruth abandoned everything for…
