4 Actions To Avoid In Learning How To Master Your Emotions

Have you acted out of a place where you felt cornered or afraid?

  • When you know if you had taken time to ponder over your decision/s, you might have chosen a different option?

[pullquote]Endeavour to gain a life filled with facts of what you know and not what you feel. You need to become healthy (emotionally and mentally) so that you can live abundantly and not act and live out of fear by leaning towards fear based decisions and what you see, feel and hear. [/pullquote]

  • Do you allow your emotions to control your thought making processes?

[pullquote]Learn to acquire faith in situations. Built steadily over time. Because God does not author fear or confusion. If you rely on how you are ‘feeling’ rather than what you believe – that comes from the enemy who seeks to kill, steal and destroy your peace.[/pullquote]

  • Or do you control your emotions and sleep on your decision before acting?

[pullquote]Basing your actions on your ‘feelings’ is how you sabotage your future. However, God wants to give us faith – dependence on His promises (not the fear or triggers of ‘what I feel’) to impact our future.[/pullquote]

Master your emotions, rather than allow your emotions to master you with 4 actions to avoid

Do you have frequent fears in your life?

In various situations, we all have a list of the different eventualities or concepts we fear. That thing that holds and controls you. The stalling thoughts that paralyse you. The worries of future occurrences that rob today of peace is fear.

Fear will make you do things, react in ways (that if you took a step back and analyse yourself) you wish that you just wouldn’t do…

1| You will force things

The job, the relationship, the business. Because you took it away from God and did it your way, rather than wait for God’s hand of promotion. God is on time. When you stop trusting God and are driven by fear not faith…

2| You will panic

‘I’m so scared l need to do something… l can’t just sit and do nothing’ –  leads us to making unwise decisions. God is an expert in anxiety. Why? Because He is the Prince of peace. And does not want you to spend time being anxious about anything (Lamentations 3:25). If you start to act panicky that is not from the place of God’s peace. His peace allows you to not be panicked by what you see, feel or hear. Are you worried about your marriage; being single; your children’s future; your business; your health or tomorrow? If you are not self-aware and become tolerant…

3| You will be insecure

That is not part of your identity in Christ. In trying situations, do you turn to manipulation because you are plagued by fear and insecurity. Confidence comes from God. Where your identity is founded in who God says you are. Insecure people are painful to be around. When we live by faith we will be secure of knowing who we are and who God made us to be. Fear and anger will win if you don’t become secure in God’s unfailing words…

4| You will be controlling

Of people and situations. But, you have 0% control of anything. When you live in fear you will be afraid that people will take situations away from you so you will try to control the applaud and praise. Faith people differ. They release people not hold them. They give generously of their time and resources not hoard these.

Do you want to move to the next level away from your fear based symptoms?

Learn to master your emotions through God’s love. This allows you to alter your outlook and heart state by knowing God loves us unconditionally (no matter how tough our situations feels right now). His love changes us. His grace gives us the power to live by faith, even though what we see contradicts this. Because His love is perfect.

Even when we fail and are faithless. We live by God’s grace we received through the cross and not the law. It is because of who God is. His kindness. His unfading love. The pursuit He has for us is overwhelming and reckless.

  • Because His love will not leave us hopeless.
  • Because no weapon formed against us will prosper (Isaiah 54:17) and that includes not allowing our emotions to control how we act and react.
  • Because God seeks our close relationship with Him, not simply religion.

Where will you put your faith and trust? In symptoms that make you run scared? Or in faith?

Fear is real. But so is faith. Maybe you worry because you think that if you move forward in faith with God, something fear driven will transpire and strike you. So you stop and question past triggers. Will this happen again? Leads you to focus on the symptoms of fear. But God doesn’t want you to live in the place of fear driven panic.

  • He wants you to step out with Him in faith.
  • Renew your mind through His word.
  • Take that leap daily.
  • Move from letting your feelings master you to boosting your faith in God.

Convicting. I recognize myself in many of the wrong reasons for making a decision, such as out of fear, insecurity, panic, control, etc.

I have often let my emotions get the best of me, expend energy I could use for other positive things, and lead to me making poor choices in the moment. I want to be more intentional to place my trust and full faith in the Lord.
