Learn How To Grow In Love

Can you believe that we are a few months away from the end of this decade?

Where time has fleetingly past us by. As the days draw us in at this season, there we discover an opportunity to not only think about our journey through the last decade, but reflect on how we are developing in many areas of our life.

Recently, I have been thinking about love and in particular where Paul talks about how our love for each other should keep growing all the time (2 Thessalonians 1:3, Philippians 1:9). For our friends and family. And those we don’t really know too.

Are you ready to grow in love?

  • The love he talks about is not where our lives are perfect or defined by how we feel.
  • But rather it is a sacrificial love where you follow the model Christ has given us, we love because Christ loved us and gave His life for us (Galatians 2:20).
  • It requires determination to love your spouse even if you don’t have the perfect marriage. Or love a troublesome teenager, when you disagree.
  • The growing in love process puts our love to the test.

We know Christ said, as He loves us, so we should love others (John 13:34). Most times we think this is difficult, but God does not ask anything of us without giving us the ability to do it.

  • When someone hurts us, it’s natural to withdraw or withhold affection.
  • Yet, here is where we are required to grow in love.
  • To love others regardless nurtures unconditional love.
  • Our affection should not depend on our actions, mood or circumstances.

Think about all the times we haven’t behaved perfectly and despite this, Christ loves us all the same. His affection nurtures us so that we don’t wither. Our responsibility is to follow His example and love others with this Christlike grace. Because God’s grace loves us according to His capacity, not according to the degree of our merit. Therefore we must love others by God’s standards not our own.

This month the focus is on Breast Cancer Awareness and a chance for us to do our part, by wearing pink on 18 October and think about Breast Cancer Now. To help make both life-saving and life-changing assistance to cancer treatment and research.

Begin with a few tips to ensure you diagnose any early changes by checking your own breasts regularly. Anything unsual or different in shape or size. To colour or texture. That includes pain and insensitivity too. Why not get involved and wear pink on 18 October and raise funds for breast cancer research.

Let’s all grow in love every day. To make a difference in our world, those we brush shoulders with and who we encounter day to day. Additionally support the campaign for Breast Cancer. To raise awareness and join in to help others in need.

Love is what we as Christians should be characterized by. Because it’s a fruit of the Spirit, we should always be growing in our love for each other.
