Create New Habits Vs Willpower

How many times have you given in when your opposing willpower fades?

You start an exercise plan. A daily bible reading plan. Healthier meal plan. But after a while. Contrary to your best laid plans. And motivation to create a new habit. You give in.

What is will power?

It’s our ability to be self-controlled and overcome temptation in the short term so that we achieve long term goals.

But why do we wake every morning. Get ready for work or school. Keep to a routine. Do things we may not like doing. Without running out of willpower. The reason is because this is a habit. We have embedded it into our daily routine. What we do. And why we do it. Without even avoiding this as part of our day or week. What we do has become a habit.

Think about this.  There is an opposing relationship between creating habits versus your willpower. Forming a new habit takes self-control. And discipline. As you master your willpower, a habit is established. If you do not give in. Learning a new habit will become easier if you repeat it. Until you can do it automatically.

When you are aware of the process that is necessary to form good habits. By being consistent despite the way you feel.  Put hard work by not giving in. Soon your efforts will pay off. Starting an exercise plan before breakfast. Reading your bible app before you jump out of bed. Repetition breeds habits. Practice turns a reminder into a habit.

Transition is a period of change. To gain a new habit. You must sacrifice some willpower. Keep a to-do list. Have a daily reminder to keep you on course. Do it everyday. By enlisting a friend, you can motivate each other. Support and encourage one another when your willpower starts to decline. Small changes like preparing meals well ahead so that you do not have any unhealthy snacks to tempt you when you get hungry. Choosing books to read for each day of the week. Carry a journal to jot down ideas as they arise.  These are all ways of planning ahead.
