3 Best Signposts To Guide You To Positive Change

Is there hope? In a hopeless situation?

To the elderly person all alone. To the young person who doesn’t fit in. To the young man or woman faced with devastating news.

We spend so much time living with regret. Do you regret the time you have wasted? Or the opportunities you have missed? Perhaps all the mistakes you made and the relationships you destroyed.

There is not much point dwelling over regrets, unless you are taking time to gain wisdom and become hardy so that you can make better choices and decisions in the future.

God allows us numerous chances. Placing before us yet another possibility to try again because His faithfulness is great and His mercies are new every single day [Lamentations 3:22-23].

How can you effect positive change to handle regret?

1| Pause and reflect over all your thoughts, actions and emotions…

… That has caused you to make mistakes. Now you have to take responsibility for what you did, there is no excuse. God wants us to come to Him and…

2| Ask for forgiveness…

… Come to the place of Godly sorrow where you realise that your sin hurts God, so that you change towards others and most of all yourself.  This is the chance to hate sin and what it does to you and others. Turn to God, change your heart and life and abandon your sin, instead choose God’s ways to…

3| Refocus on the future…

… God provides us with the opportunity to rise again. He promises us that we should not keep repeating our history but be vigilant and present knowing He is about do something brand new [Isaiah 43:17-18]. Today is a fresh day. That grants you novel opportunities to sort out your emotions and thoughts so that you can move on to greater things.

Don’t waste it looking back in regret! Look forward to all that God has for you. Because His steadfast love endures forever [Psalm 107]. Pray that God would burden within you new ideas. Brace you to envisage what you can do to be a positive change – in your community and for society.

Loved this, “God provides us with the opportunity to rise again. He promises us that we should not keep repeating our history but be vigilant and present knowing He is about do something brand new [Isaiah 43:17-18].” One of my favorite passages. Sometimes that new thing looks different than what we initially thought; trusting that God’s plans are better than our own, we must walk in faith, roll with the Lord and then we will experience more than something new, we will experience what’s immeasurable.

Great message, Ava. In my husband’s sermon on Sunday, he noted how Jesus was the only person who lived without any regrets. But for the rest of us we must be intentional to pursue forgiveness and focus on life in Christ.

Absolutely beautiful, Ava. I love what you said here about sin: “Come to the place of Godly sorrow where you realise that your sin hurts God, so that you change towards others and most of all yourself.“ so true
