5 Lessons Hobbies Teach Me

When someone mentions the word ‘hobby’… what immediately comes to your mind?

An activity involving physical exertion and skill?

An individual or team competing against each other?

A means of entertainment?

There are a number of descriptions that we all could come up with, but recently I have been thinking about the activities I am currently trying to master ~
Horse riding …Roller dance skating… RunningPlaying the piano…

So you probably wondering how playing the piano would have anything in common with horse riding.  But, as I asked God to speak to me, I realised there was a lot more than I thought…

  • Patience
  • Determination
  • Practice
  • Skill
  • Technique
  • Perseverance
  • Understanding
  • Time
  • Decdication

There are many characteristics required to master a hobby or sport, but here are a few things all these are teaching me about my Christian journey.

1| I have to learn patience if I can effectively shine as a Christian in a ‘dark’ world…
2| I have to be determined not to let ‘setbacks’ dishearten me…
3| I must not allow ‘cares’ to weigh me down…
4| I must not allow people to disappoint me because of differing expectations…
5| I have to persevere when things get difficult ~ through tough circumstances and in dealing with challenging people…
