Who Is Your Number 1?

Over the last week, I have been thinking of all the words we would use if we worship [adore] a person who was special to us.

For most people this would be the closest person to you.
So what makes us ‘worship’ a person?

In this context the verb to describe worship [admire] is used.
As defined in the Cambridge dictionary as to love, respect, and admire someone or something very much, often without noticing the bad qualities of that person or thing:

So would this person then become the #1 person in our life?

I read the description of a Christian minister who calls his wife ‘lil number 2’ because the number 1 place in his life is given to Christ.

How many of us can genuinely say that Christ is #1 in our lives?

The Cambridge dictionary defines worship [religion] to have or show a strong feeling of respect and admiration for God or a god:

Do we have Christ at the centre of everything?

As I thought about this, I realised that all I long for more and more is to truly worship God.

This year I have made a conscious decision to surrender all of me to Christ. All those parts of our heart and soul that we try to keep away from total surrender.

At times it has been difficult and my will fights back.

But I know that in Christ I am an overcomer, so I seek to worship Him and only Him.

To adore and admire, be devoted to and love and respect Christ, not giving Him any place except – #1.

One day we will truly worship the Lamb face to face, but until then we worship Him on this earth.

It should cause us to fall ‘facedown’ as Matt Redman writes in his book Face Down to a God who is Most High.

I would rather live my life as if there is a God and die to find out there isn’t, than live as if there isn’t and die to find out that there is.  Albert Camus
