DIMINISH Self-Deprecation…

Definition of Self-Deprecation [belittling; undervalue; run yourself down by criticising yourself excessively in your own mind or in front of others]

Based on negative emotions that have been created from childhood… due to the fear of inadequacy… and embedded insecurity… caused by living up to the expectation of others… from allowing the judgement of others to matter…. including overprotectiveness or control… and being afraid to show others your true self…

It makes you ~

  • avoid the attention of others on yourself by diverting their gaze away from you towards something or someone else…
  • manipulate the expectations or perceptions others have of you by apologising for failure or inability in advance so that they only expect that of you…

It causes you to adopt the continual ploy of ‘damage limitation’ in excessively belittling yourself by thinking and telling yourself that you are never good enough…

How To Diminish Self-deprecation…

  1. Begin by observing and realising that what you are doing to yourself is detrimental…
  2. In looking to God (and His Word), develop self-awareness and work on re-wiring your brain…
  3. Gain more control over how and what you think about yourself…
  4. Not allow the judgment of others to hurt you by lessening the attention you pay to the expectations and opinions of others…
  5. When negative thoughts overtake you speak less and let your actions show others the person you truly are…
  6. Re-balance your own expectations to believe that you are not inadequate because of any opinion or comment…
  7. Do things that will make you proud of yourself…
