The first Christmas morning… there was no room at the inn… there was no extravagant entrance… no one even recognised that the baby Jesus had been born! Only a star pointed to where He lay… in a stable.
Suddenly, an angel of the Lord appeared among them, and the radiance of the Lord’s glory surrounded them. They were terrified, but the angel reassured them. “Don’t be afraid!” he said. “I bring you good news that will bring great joy to all people. The Saviour—yes, the Messiah, the Lord—has been born today in Bethlehem, the city of David!
Luke 2:9-11 (NLT)
The angel of the Lord brought a message with three important points [the wise men too, followed the Star… and brought three key gifts pointing towards His destiny] –
1. The Saviour –
He came to save us from our sins.
Myrrh pointing to His humanity – for He was destined to die!
…To the only God our Saviour, through Jesus Christ our Lord, be glory, majesty, dominion, and power, before all time and now and forever.. Jude1:25 (AMP)
2. The Messiah –
He came to those who would believe.
Frankincense pointing to His deity – for He is God!
But these have been written so that you may believe [with a deep, abiding trust] that Jesus is the Christ (the Messiah, the Anointed), the Son of God; and that by believing [and trusting in and relying on Him] you may have life in His name… John 20:31 (AMP)
3. The Lord –
He is the Lord of all lords.
Gold pointing to His majesty – for He is King!
For it is written: “As I live, says the Lord, Every knee shall bow to Me, And every tongue shall confess to God”. Romans 14:11 (NKJV)
